Sciatica
This painful condition usually originates in the lower back upon the spine and to varying degrees of discomfort. It can present as a mild dull-ache affecting the lower back and buttock area (it’s usually one sided) or a stronger ache that refers further down the leg into the back of the thigh, back of the knee and into the calf.
Sometimes, the pain associated with Sciatica can be very severe and affect the whole leg, travelling down as far as the outside of the ankle, where the pain can be very intense and sharp in nature, almost strong enough to virtually disable the victim.
The good news is, I have lots of very good success in treating this nasty condition. In most cases, weekly visits are usually sufficient, requiring 3-4 treatments to be fully effective. However, in severe cases, twice weekly visits may be necessary, eventually requiring 6-10 acupuncture treatments to eventually resolve the Sciatica.
Unless the problem is structural in origin – and a referral for manipulation could be appropriate (which happens only very occasionally) I usually look to restore cases of sciatica back to full health.
